Mildura is one of the largest cities on the banks of the Murray River system. It is an important agricultural centre that relies on a vast irrigation system from the river. The region is an important wine growing area with a large number of well known wine growers active in the area and it is also an important fruit growing and orchard area. For the holiday maker, the Murray River provides a fantastic play ground for families who like boating, fishing and water skiing. The commercial centre of Mildura is quite beautiful with well laid out, tree lined streets that contain plenty of restaurants and cafes to cater for the numerous visitors.

The calm river waters provide a fantastic place to spend a few days away from the rat race enjoying the quiet tranquillity of the river. European settlement in the area stretches back well into the nineteenth century and consequently there are many old heritage listed buildings to see like the Grand Hotel and the Old Mildura Homestead. Mildura is also the perfect place to base yourself when exploring the Murray Riverland region. Mildura is located about 400 kilometres from Adelaide which is the capital of South Australia and about 550 kilometres from Melbourne which is the capital of Victoria.

Places to visit in Mildura include the Mildura brewery which produces a number of specialty beers, the Mildura arts and crafts centre, and the regional art gallery. Kings Billabong wildlife reserve which is situated 8 kilometres south east of Mildura is a great place to take the kids for a treat. The Murray-sunset National Park which is Victoria’s second oldest National Park and the Hattah-Kulkyne national park which is typical of the mallee country in the region and both are worth a visit.. Local attractions that occur seasonally during the year include the Mildura Country music festival and the Mildura jazz, food and wine festival which runs for five days and is a feature of the riverboats and waterfront areas of the city.

The Riverland region of New South Wales is a superb holiday destination and the city of Mildura lies right at its centre.
